My name is Michael Giles, and I’m the founder and CEO of Black Biz Finder. I was born and raised on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, where I saw firsthand how often our community would support businesses that offered what Black-owned businesses do—but without realizing those Black businesses even existed. I realized my own family, like many others, was unintentionally putting their dollars elsewhere simply because we didn’t have a system in place to easily find and support our own.
Other cultures have strong traditions of circulating wealth within their communities—Chinatown, Little Italy, and others serve as real-life examples of economic unity. It’s time we create that for ourselves. Black people are among the highest-spending groups in the U.S., yet much of that money leaves our community. Black Biz Finder is here to change that—to make it easy, normal, and powerful to support Black-owned businesses, keep wealth circulating among us, and build something lasting. This app is our full-circle moment.
And this app is here to stay. This is ultimately going to be the app that we shop on. When Black-owned grocery stores are built, this is where we’ll find and support them. When we need a haircut, this is where we’ll find Black-owned barbers. In every city, every state, and eventually every part of the world, our people will use this app to buy Black and build up our economic strength. This isn’t a trend—it’s the future.
